The electronic Eighties

A decade of digital revolution
Jun, 24, 2019

It was during the 1980s that digital recording came to its peak, filling our ears with the sounds of non-traditional instruments. Yamaha’s invention of the DX7 digital synthesiser took the industry by storm and the unmistakable sound of the synth came to define the decade. Not only did the innovation of electronic music feature heavily across all genres, but it inspired one of its own.

This playlist features the best synth-pop tracks of all time and it will take you straight back to the 80s – sans shoulder pads and strong hold hairspray (unless you’re feeling really nostalgic). We’re talking iconic electronic music, 80’s tracks like ‘Sweet Dreams are Made of These’ and ‘Tainted Love’.
